Across the U.S. we are seeing solar job growth outpace the overall economy.
For many years, Florida’s solar industry has lagged the rapid growth in the rest of the country. But those days are behind us as Florida was one of the fastest-growing states for solar in 2016. We saw 1,700 new solar-related jobs statewide in 2016.
The reason behind all these new jobs is simple: Customers are taking advantage of falling solar prices to save money on their energy bills. Solar costs have dropped by 75 percent since 2009, and in Florida they are dropping even faster.
Because Floridians use their air conditioning and pool pumps year-round, and we lack natural gas options for things like hot water heating, energy bills run high here. That high energy use means customers can afford to install twice as many solar panels as average U.S. solar customers, which drives costs down and makes it easier to finance a solar system for less than the cost of their existing rates.
